The angiographic and brain scan findings in acute non-herpetic encephalitis
Abstract
The angiographic findings in 12 cases of acute non-herpetic encephalitis, which were carefully selected on histopathological, serological and clinical evidence are presented. Ten cases had no midline shift, and only one had a temporal mass. Although three cases exhibited persistent filling of terminal arteries, local hypervascularity and early vernous drainage, the majority of cases showed only one of these features. Two cases had normal angiograms. Four brain scans were normal and one was equivocal. The findings are compared to those in acute herpes simplex encephalitis.
