Ovarian carcinoma metastatic to the breast

Abstract

The breast is infrequently the site of metastatic disease. In the majority of instances such involvement is discovered at autopsy and is associated with widespread malignancy (Egan, 1964 and Ibach, 1964). Six cases of ovarian carcinoma with metastatic breast involvement have been cited in the literature (Brown and O'Keefe, 1928; Charache, 1953; Harwood, 1971; Ibach, 1964; Sitzenfrey, 1907), but to our knowledge, no radiological descriptions have been included. The present case provides mammographic documentation and emphasizes the fact that the breast may be involved by secondary malignant disease arising from either a known or previously unsuspected neoplastic process.
