A possible genetic factor in cervical spondylosis
Abstract
In the past the common condition of cervical spondylosis has been regarded as an ageing process, often aided by trauma. It is postulated here that one aetiological factor is genetic. Elderly monozygous and dizygous twins have been found to have very similar degrees of cervical spondylosis; furthermore in a small group the sibs of elderly patients without cervical spondylosis have also been found to lack this condition.
